In conclusion of the University of the Cordilleras (UC) GREEN-is-In! 2023, in a dazzling display of talent and poise, Edrionne C. Almacen and Nimpha B. Tayawa were crowned Mr. and Ms. UC (MMUC) 2023 last June 9, 2023, respectively. The event which lasted for two trimesters through various events concluded at the University’s Gymnasium, which saw participants from various colleges competing for the prestigious titles.
Almacen and Tayawa, representing the College of Teacher Education (CTE), impressed the judges with their confidence, intelligence, and charisma. During the question-and-answer portion, Almacen shared his views on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) generated tools in education which he does not agree with.
“Teachers are more intelligent than AI. The reason behind that AI is a person. And I know that teachers nowadays are being upgraded, having more knowledge about this modern society. And I know that every teacher have the capacity to cater the needs of this modern society,” Almacen answered.
Tayawa, when asked about outgrowing her limitations when joining pageantry, encouraged the UC students to show their true selves. “Beauty pageant is not just about beauty. It is about showing who you are. And if you showed yourself, you can be able to empower other people, as well. You can be able to uplift the confidence of other people,” she answered.
The event featured a series of segments, including talent showcases, formal wear, and Question and Answer rounds, where contestants demonstrated their skills and knowledge. Almacen was awarded Best in Culture while Tayawa bagged the Best in Sports Wear, Best in Talent, and Best in Evening Gown awards. The audience was treated to a night of entertainment and inspiration, celebrating the diverse talents of the university’s students.
The newly crowned Mr. and Ms. University of the Cordilleras now serves as ambassadors for the university, promoting various initiatives and representing the institution in external events. Their win has brought pride and joy to the UC community, highlighting the excellence and spirit of the College of Teacher Education. With the College’s pursuit of lifelong learning, Almacen and Tayawa is continuously featured in College activities and events.
