Student teachers from the UC College of Teacher Education provided literacy and numeracy support to elementary learners in Barangay Imelda Village, Baguio City, as part of their Project Teach to REACH (Reading Enhancement, Arts, and Calculating Honing) from June to July 2024.
The successful implementation of Project Teach to REACH was vital in supporting the Baguio City Government’s “Community Reading Program,” underscoring the UC College of Teacher Education’s commitment to civic engagement and local educational goals.
This initiative served as a powerful platform for the student teachers to translate theoretical knowledge into practical, impactful community service, thereby significantly strengthening the University’s partnerships with local communities.
Building on the overwhelming positive impact and demonstrated success, the UC College of Teacher Education has committed to making Project Teach to REACH a permanent, annual fixture within its student teaching practicum.
This program will continue to expand in 2025 to include more underserved barangays across Baguio City, ensuring broader access to crucial academic support. Furthermore, the College is actively exploring opportunities to enhance the curriculum by integrating a digital literacy component in future sessions, ensuring the program continues to meet the evolving educational needs of young learners in the Cordillera region and solidify the legacy of impactful community partnership.
